Trump and Social Media

It’s impossible, in this day and time, to talk about social media management and not talk about Donald Trump. Look, it’s no secret that I don’t like our President, but he has given all of us lots to think about when it comes to managing our online personae and keeping our online voice respectful and contained. Our President is basically the exact opposite of this. The first rule of creating and crafting an online persona that is professional is to never post when tired, angry, or inebriated. The second rule is to always proofread your posts to make sure the tone is appropriate to what you’re posting about so that your voice always comes through as respectful and appropriate. These lessons are applicable to everyone who uses social media, not just people looking for jobs or younger people whose lives will be altered by their social media presence. When it comes to the posts, or more accurately Tweets, our President sends out in a storm at six in the morning, he seems to be forgetting these simple rules of online posting. The one thing to keep in mind that will help you to self-edit, more often than not, is that everything that is posted online is there, forever. The President seems to forget this as well. This is one of the things that aren’t talked about when discussing the influence the President has, and it should be mentioned loudly and often. The President sets the tone for how people act for a long while to come. Because of this people need to be critical of all people in power, especially the President and seek to rise above the pettiness and be better in their online presence.
