Maintaining a professional social media presence is one of the most important things to remember when it comes to using social media. Even if it is your own personal blog, vlog, Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, you must always be professional and seek to present your best face to the online world. The truth of the matter is that once something is online, it’s online forever. This makes it so that every mistake, every troll post, every mean thing that you’ve ever written and posted exists in a world where everything is recorded forever. Because of this, you must always seek to read over every post before making it, and if you’re unsure, choose not to post rather than post questionable content. In this interconnected world more and more businesses are checking what you post before they hire someone. If this happens, your online persona must be one that won’t embarrass the company. While I don’t necessarily agree with this practice, this is something that is true in this day and age. So if you’re unsure, do not post something you wouldn’t want everyone to see.
